The steamy rendezvous are regarded as criminal as prison staff have responsibility for lags, much like teachers and students.

Authorities in Newark, U.S have started probing the affair after it became known.

The Attorney General’s Office said in a statement: “Between November 2019 and December 2020, Majors had sexual intercourse with a male inmate in Northern State Prison over whom she had supervisory or disciplinary power by virtue of her status as a senior correctional police officer.”

According to reports the prison officer, of Newark, had worked at Northern State Prison and was racking in $79,576 a year for her senior role having joined in 2007.

The charge came after a joint investigation by the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability, and Corrections Department special investigations division, which handles allegations of misconduct by officers.

Northern State Prison, located near Newark airport, houses 2,389 inmates at a range of security levels.

Her Facebook page, which contained several shots of her posing and for the camera, has since been taken down.

NJ.com says representatives for the Department of Corrections did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment and no defence attorney had yet been listed for Majors.
