DONALD Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida is currently being renovated before he leaves the White House – as Melania Trump is said to be looking at schools for son Barron.
The president will leave the White House on January 20 as Joe Biden is inaugurated into office.
Trump administration officials haven’t been clear about what the president plans to do when he’s done with his four-year term, however, his permanent residence is now his Florida oasis.
A source close to Trump has told PEOPLE that the president’s 2,000-square-foot private residence at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach “will be expanded and spruced up.”
“They are definitely renovating his apartment within the Mar-a-Lago Club to make it larger, more modern, and comfortable for his use.”
One source said: “Mar-a-Lago is iconic, a building he took great pride in renovating when he bought it.”
“It makes sense that he wants to be there and will make the mansion his home.”
PEOPLE also reported that Donald and Melania have separate bedrooms at Mar-a-Lago.
Those close to the current first family say the president plans to spend his post-presidency in Palm Beach, his Bedminster golf club in New Jersey, and at Trump Tower in New York City.
The Trumps officially changed their address from Fifth Avenue’s glistening gold Trump Tower to the sunny resort club in Florida in October 2019.
The president, a lifelong New Yorker who was born in Queens, isn’t as liked in the Big Apple as he is in Florida – a state he won in his re-election race against Biden.
A member of the Palm Beach club said that Trump “wouldn’t want to be in Palm Beach in the dead of summer, but he doesn’t have to be so it can work out well.”
“He loves Palm Beach and his friends here. And his golf club is minutes away in West Palm Beach.”
Another source at the beach club previously told the news outlet: “No matter what else is happening in the world, he is treated like royalty at Mar-a-Lago. He loves to be here.”
It was reported that an apartment for Melania’s parents, who have been living in Washington, DC, is also under renovation.
It was also reported that 14-year-old Barron, who, like his parents, tested positive for coronavirus in recent months, will be attending a new school in the Sunshine State.
Melania is said to be “checking out a good Florida school for Barron.”
“They have looked all over Palm Beach County and neighboring Broward County for just the right place. There are several options, and they will decide soon.”
When Donald moved into the White House in January 2017, Melania and Barron stayed back at Trump Tower in NYC for months – which the first lady said was so that Barron could finish school.
Despite repeatedly criticizing the practice of mail-in voting during his campaign, Trump requested mail-in ballots be sent to his Mar-a-Lago address to vote in the election.
Both Donald and Melania ended up voting in person in Florida.
