A woman broke into a dentist's office and pulled 13 teeth out of a patient's mouth.

Laurel Eich, who is not a licensed dentist, removed the unsuspecting victim's teeth after administering discarded anaesthetic.

The 42-year-old, who used to work at the practice as a dental assistant, is also said to have stolen almost $23,000 (£17,000) after gaining entry through a broken window.

After her arrest on Wednesday, Eich, from Reno, Nevada in the US, told police she broke into her former employer Desert Valley Dental in Sun Valley Boulevard on May 3 and swiped $22,861 in cash and cheques from a drawer.

She also confessed to performing the gruesome crime at an earlier date, the sheriff's office revealed.

Washoe County sheriff’s office said she was charged with two counts of burglary and one count each of grand larceny, conspiracy to commit burglary, and performing surgery without a medical license.

Eich had allegedly previously removed teeth from others before the break-in, according to a police statement.

Officers added that she extracted the teeth "on her own time", but gave no further information on the incident or the patient involved.

Eich was being held in the Washoe County jail today, Friday, on a $20,000 (£14,500) bond.

Exactly what happened to the teeth or why she pulled them out is unclear.

Other parts of 19-year-old Ayazhan Edilova’s dismembered body were found in the suspect’s flat and nearby rubbish skips in March.

Her fingernails had also been pulled out, according to police in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Ayazhan's head was boiling in a pan of water on the suspect’s cooker, according to reports and it’s believed that the remains of a second unknown human body were found, leading to suspicions that the suspect could be a serial killer.
